PHYLLIS WINQUIST TUITION ASSISTANCE AWARDS: These awards are bestowed by the NYCC in honor of a master teacher, Phyllis Winquist, to support candidates who are taking courses to acquire or improve skills in teaching Latin or Ancient Greek in grades 7-12. Candidates must be paid members of the NYCC at the time of applying and during the twelve months of the funded period. They must either be teaching Classics in grades 7-12 or show clear indication of doing so in the near future. All application materials must be postmarked by March 1 and mailed to Donald Connor, 100 W. 92nd St. Apt 21F, New York, NY 10025. INFORMATION FOR SPRING 2010 CONTESTS!! Every spring, the Club sponsors three contests to encourage and reward the study of Latin and Greek. High School Sight Translation: Students from high schools compete in five divisions of Latin sight translations, each of which carries three prizes, now being determined. The contest will take place on Thursday, 4 PM April 15th at the Regis School, 55 East 84th Street in Manhattan. Please gather at the 2nd floor Conference Room between 3:30-4:00 PM. If you wish to participate, please contact Mr. Donald Conner by April 6, at 4 PM. The registrations can be done by email and should include the school name and the number of students competing in each division: i.e., Caesar 3, Cicero 0, Ovid 4, Vergil 2, and Horace 6, If you have any questions, or wish to register or proctor, please contact Donald Connor (donald.connor@trinityschoolnyc.org) |
